Alpine F1’s recruit, Fernando Alonso, has appreciated the new season’s Imola Grand Prix after the satisfactory Free Practice 1 session. The former Formula One world champion has managed to set up decent performances at the circuit and seemed eager to look for more.
The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, also known as the Imola Circuit, is set to hold this week’s Grand Prix. Many drivers praised the track for its picturesque location. Alonso, being one of them, seemed to love the track and performed adequately.
Alonso tweeted “Imola, you are great 🔥😍! More to come tomorrow 🙏 @alpinef1team”

Expectations are high with Fernando Alonso
The 39-year-old driver raked up P7 after Free Practice 1 in 23 laps and clocked 1:17.456. He was 0.893 seconds slower than the leader Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes AMG F1. With this performance, the Spaniard started having high hopes regarding the grid position at the final race.
However, things didn’t work out for him in Free Practice 2 as they did previously. The former Ferrari driver steered down from P7 to P13. He was around 1.284 seconds slower than the Finnish Mercedes racer, this time too. The Spaniard took 27 laps and clocked 1:16.835 on the timer.

After a disastrous start at the Bahrain Grand Prix, it will now be interesting to see how Fernando fares in the Free Practice 3 and further in the Final Qualification before going into the Final race at Imola.
