Mercedes’s star driver Valtteri Bottas claimed the P3 at Sakhir Grand Prix and expressed “things could’ve been better” at the post-race interview with Formula One.
The Finnish driver finished behind his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton who took the pole and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who was the favorite to win the race. Bottas, however, was “disappointed” with his P3 position.
Bottas performed pretty well during pre-season testing as well as pre-qualification at Bahrain. The 31-year-old also racked up P3 after Saturday’s final qualification. However, the Mercedes driver seemed unhappy with how things went at Sakhir.

Once in an interview, the 31-year-old claimed that he sees his teammate Lewis Hamilton as his immediate rival. With Lewis taking the Pole and Bottas being at P3, it was a tough night for the Finn. In the interview with Formula One, upset Valtteri conveyed, “I’m disappointed with how it went.”
Bottas further talked about his plans with Lewis Hamilton. The Finnish had strategies that didn’t go down too well in the race. Bottas stated, “Lewis and I had different strategies today – From my side things could have been better”
Valtteri Bottas unhappy despite P3?
Despite claiming P3, the Finnish seems unhappy. The most likely reason for his disappointment could be the issue with Mercedes’s W12. Valtteri Bottas has been vocal with the issues that he has been facing lately with Mercedes’s F1W12, the newly launched car for the 2021 season.
The Mercedes star driver stated that he faced problems with W12’s rear end. The rear end of the car has been snappy and unforgiving during the pre-season testing. In addition to new tires, the car feels quite sensitive to sliding, concluded the Finn.
The team engineers checked on the issue and said they are working on it to improve as required. As per the fans, if Bottas can manage to get the hold of his car and overcome the difficulties he’s facing with his W12, it will just be a matter of time before Valtteri comes up being a title contender alongside Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
