Dan Evans has delivered the biggest upset of the Monte Carlo Masters by defeating World number one Novak Djokovic. As the Briton now heads for his quarter-final challenge against Belgian player David Goffin, he receives some good words of praises from the opponent prior to their clash.

He’s an amazing, talented player. I always thought that he could play on every surface. Maybe in his head, he was not a clay-court player in the past, so he was not super confident on that surface,” Goffin said. “I think he’s one step stronger than before, especially the past few weeks, few months. He won his first ATP title. Now on the clay, he’s won a lot of matches.”

“It’s going to be a tough match,” Goffin continued. “Of course, it’s an amazing performance to beat Novak in a Masters 1000 here.

The duo only met once in their careers during the last year’s ATP cup and it’s Evans who claimed a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory over Goffin. Yet, the Belgian is coming with some high spirits after his third-round victory against Alexander Zverev.

Evans did hit 20 winners to Djokovic’s 24 on Court Rainier III during the match. Still, the Serbian proved a bit rusty in comparison to 30-year-old Broton who took the game home given his wide array of skills.
