An emergency meeting was held by the English Football Association (FA), EFL (Premier League), Professional Football Players Association (PFA) and LMA to discuss the continuation of the competition which was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. Quoted from the official Premier League page, Thursday (3/19/2020), this season will end no later than June 1.
‘We have decided to find a way to resume the 2019/20 football season and ensure all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so. FA rules and regulations state that the season will end no later than 1 June and every competition is within the limits set by the FA. Determine the length of the playing season itself,’ the EFL official said.
‘The FA Board has agreed that this limit is extended indefinitely for the 2019/2020 season concerning professional football. Besides, we collectively agree that professional play in England will be postponed further no later than 30 April.’
For now, the EFL is still seeing developments related to the coronavirus pandemic that has hit the UK and countries around the world. Although it is still unclear when this problem can be resolved, the EFL can assure everyone the health and well-being of players, staff, and supporters is a top priority.
‘We are aware of the Government’s recommendations and work collaboratively to keep the situation reviewed and explore all available options to find ways to continue the season when conditions permit. We all want to reiterate that our thoughts are on everyone affected by COVID- 19.’
With the official confirmation given by the EFL, Liverpool’s chance to end the thirst for the English League title for 30 years can be realized this season. Currently, Liverpool is top of the Premier League standings with 82 points or 25 points ahead of their closest competitor Manchester City.
According to calculations, the club nicknamed the Reds will be on the championship stage by winning two more wins. Liverpool can celebrate the title celebration when The Reds host Crystal Palace at Anfield Stadium. However, it is unclear whether the match is held in private or not.
