WBC Interim Heavyweight Champion Dillian Whyte was challenged by Swedish boxer Otto Wallin this year. Wallin injured Tyson Fury in the September 2019 battle to be an ideal opponent for Whyte while awaiting the certainty of the duel against heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder.
Whyte himself plans a battle against high-ranking opponents in March or April. Some opponents he wanted to face included Alexander Povetkin, Andy Ruiz Jr., and Wallin. “Otto is one of the best heavyweights in the world,” promoter Dmitry Salita told Sky Sports.
The aim is to beat the best in the Heavyweight and win the world title. ‘The fight with Whyte for the temporary title ‘WBC could be an interesting possibility in 2020,’ he said.
On the other hand, Wilder will undergo a duel against Tyson Fury in Las Vegas on February 22, with Whyte waiting for the winner, who must face it on February 2021
‘I no longer believe that it has anything to do with Deontay Wilder,’ Whyte told Sky Sports earlier this month. ‘WBC wants me to fight, I want to fight, I’m a mandatory challenger, but Deontay Wilder doesn’t want to fight,’ Whyte said. ‘What else can I do? I can not do anything else. Deontay Wilder coward. He’s a big coward.’
