Denmark squad: FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 – Final list of 26 players for Danish national team

Denmark will look to repeat the euphoria of their run to the semifinals of Euro 2020 in Qatar, minus the tragic end suffered by Christian Eriksen.

The Manchester United midfielder, who suffered a cardiac arrest during that tournament and had to leave the field, has made a remarkable recovery.

And now, thank goodness, he’s back and firmly established as a Premier League regular. At his fifth major tournament, Eriksen will serve as Denmark’s main source of inspiration.

Kasper Hjulmand’s squad brings a core of established talent nearing the mature end of their primes to the Middle East, and they have already shown promise with a dominant qualifying campaign and two recent victories over defending world champion France.

Another daring Danish charge into the knockout stages is possible if they gain steam in the group stages.

Final 26-man Denmark World Cup squad

By Friday, October 21, Hjulmand was required by FIFA to submit a preliminary list of 35 to 55 players from which he would make his final roster selection of 26 players for Qatar. A total of 21 of Denmark’s 26 players were announced on November 7; the remaining five were added by the deadline.

Premier League stars Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Mikkel Damsgaard were among those originally named. Naturally, former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was also mentioned.

Hjulmand said that 12 players, including Christian Norgaard and Yussuf Poulsen, were competing for the final five spots in his team.

Denmark World Cup group

Eriksen and his teammates will be licking their lips at the sight of Group D. Back-to-back victories over France in the UEFA Nations League will strike fear into Didier Deschamps’ side, who will be desperate to avoid another shock exit as they suffered in Euro 2020.

Though not to be underestimated, the Danes should have enough firepower to overcome Tunisia and Australia.
