World number one and defending champion Shanghai Masters Novak Djokovic was defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 in the quarter-finals in Shanghai, China, Friday (11/10/2019). The defeat made Djokovic lost the world number 1 ranking.
Djokovic lost the top spot after losing 1,600 ATP points in one day. Because the Serb did not play tournaments in Vienna or Basel. Spain’s Rafael Nadal will take the ATP No. 1 ranking on November 4, 2019.
Even if Rafa plans to miss the Paris Masters 2019 and Djokovic claims the title in Paris, Nadal will still become the world’s number one tennis player. At present, Rafa (9,225 points) is 320 ATP points behind Novak.
After almost a year in the top spot, Nadal will return to the top of world tennis. Nadal will now arrive in London as the top seed, with Djokovic taking second place.
“I’m not sharp enough. I am not sure how my body will adjust to this new challenge, “said Djokovic after losing to Tsitsipas.
Djokovic mentioned about the lack of energy and intensity in the match. He came with his own mistakes during important moments in the fight.
