Seven constructors got the podium finish in the last season of Formula 1, and Daniel Ricciardo believes any team can achieve a podium position this year.
Mercedes got the most podium finishes with 573 points in the 2020 season. Red Bull and McLaren were in second and third position, respectively.
However, Alfa Romeo, Haas, and Williams did not pose as a challenging team in the 2020 season. The point gap between the ranked seven AlphaTauri and ranked eight Alfa Romeo was significant. While AlphaTauri stood with 107 points, Alfa Romeo amassed just eight points.
How was the 2020 season for Daniel Ricciardo?
Daniel Ricciardo stood third twice on the podium in the 2020 season with Renault F1. Daniel Ricciardo was not happy with his performance in most of the races.
Therefore, the honey-badger joined the McLaren for the 2021 season. McLaren ranked third on the constructor standings in Formula 1 2020.
McLaren shifted to Mercedes for the power unit from Renault. There are speculations that Ricciardo with Lando Norris can get McLaren to the top this season.
The 31-year-old driver tested his new ride MCL35M in Silverstone, and the new ride is magnificent for the Aussie driver.
What Daniel Ricciardo got to say about other teams?
The Honey-Badger mentioned the podium finishes are the motivation for his performance. Subsequently, he claimed any team can get the podium in 2021, if not all most of the teams have the chance to have a podium finish.
Ricciardo said, “I see it as any team have a chance at a podium, if not every team then most of them,
“It will be tight again but they are my motivation and hopefully my experience comes out on top in whatever battle that is.”
The Australian driver mentioned his past team that competed with most teams in F1, and most of the teams had a podium finish last season. He believes the competition will be harder than the previous one. All teams would compete with each other and will also aim to take down the top team Mercedes.
Ricciardo said, “Looking at last year there was really a rivalry with most of the field,
“I know not every team, but more teams than not finished on the podium last year, so the battle to fight for the front was getting much more intense.”
“You’ve still got Mercedes with the target on their back, but for the rest of us we are really trying to close that gap, so whether it’s Ferrari or another team I think it will be close again.”, said the Australian driver.
What can we expect from the 2021 season?
All teams are pulling up their socks to be the best on the Formula 1 grid. We already witnessed all teams coming up with powerful cars and skillful drivers in their teams. We can expect this year is going to be fierce and might witness the creation of some historical moments in this season.
The 2021 season will start with Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, 28 March 2021.
