Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone praised Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday for his scoring ability before the clash between the two teams in Group D of the Champions League.
Ronaldo has scored 25 goals against Atletico in 33 games and was instrumental in the Spanish team’s elimination in the last edition of the continental tournament when he scored the three goals with which Juventus turned the key to the round of 16 after a 2-0 defeat in the first leg.
“Cristiano is a goal animal, he has tremendous records and in any situation near the area, he generates danger. It’s not easy to control, it has everything,” said the Argentine DT at a press conference about the Portuguese attacker, who had become accustomed to tormenting the Atlético Madrid during his nine years at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo has been Atletico’s executioner in the Champions League, helping Madrid beat their classic rival in the 2014 and 2016 finals.
Jose Maria Gimenez, meanwhile, said his team must work together to stop the Portuguese attacker.
