This summer is going to be thrilling for football fans as the Euro 2020 is going on. Further, the biggest South American tournament is finally here, Copa America is about to begin on June 13, 2021, with a match between Brazil and Venezuela.
2021 Copa America is the 47th edition of the international men’s championship in South America to be held this year. The grand tournament is organized by the authorities of CONMEBOL. The tournament was supposed to take place last year but the coronavirus pandemic postponed the event to 2021.
Where will Copa America 2021 take place?
Initially, the plan was to host the tournament in Argentina and Columbia. However, the ongoing protest against the Colombian President and the rising cases of the COVID-19 in Argentina forced CONMEBOL to change the venue for the tournament.
Brazil will host the Copa America 2021.
Therefore, the defending champions, Brazil will now host the 2021 edition, which also hosted the Copa America 2019.
What is the format for Copa America 2021
In normal years, 12 teams compete in the tournament to lift the greatest title in South American football. Out of the 12 teams, 10 teams are South American countries, whereas two foreign countries are invited to fill the vacant two seats. This year because of the pandemic, the foreign countries are excluded and the number of teams got reduced to ten. Thus the Copa America 2021 groups consists five teams each group.

Now both groups host ten matches, after the end of the group stage top four teams from both groups qualify for the quarter-finals. Then fierce semi-finals take place between the four qualifying teams. And finally, the top two teams of the tournament face each other to claim the title of 2021 Copa America.
