Chelsea will evaluate Mount's injury after the defeat against Valencia

Mason Mount leaves the field after injuring himself against Valencia on September 17, 2019.

Chelsea coach Frank Lampard is concerned about Mason Mount’s physical condition before Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool after the midfielder was forced off the pitch due to an ankle injury during the match against Valencia.

Mount’s Champions League debut lasted nine minutes after a terrible inning by Valencia’s Francis Coquelin in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

“We have to evaluate it in the next 24-48 hours to see the magnitude of the injury,” Lampard said at a press conference.

“We don’t know how serious it is. It’s an ankle injury and it’s a shame. It’s been playing so well and it’s started well tonight.

After an impressive loan spell at Derby County last season, Mount made his Chelsea debut at the start of the 2019-20 campaign and scored three goals in five league games.

Chelsea, currently sixth in the table with eight points from five matches, will be confident that league leaders Liverpool will get the campaign off to a good start.
