British boxing legend and former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno advises Anthony Joshua
British boxing legend and former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno advised Anthony Joshua to follow in the footsteps of other heavyweight fighters who were shockingly defeated.
Back on June 1, 2019, Joshua was dropped four times before losing the TKO in the seventh round by underdog Andy Ruiz Jr. in Madison Square, York City, which caused Joshua to lose the WBO, WBA and IBF titles.
Joshua will fight again with Ruiz Jr in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 7. Bruno wants Joshua to follow some legends such as Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali, who all managed to revive their careers and regain the world title after suffering a shocking defeat.
“Lennox Lewis is a legend, as are Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, but all of them are past their time. This is a new moment for other boxers to establish their heritage,” Bruno told Mirror.
“Everyone looks at Ruiz and thinks he looks like Teletubbies and then people bet Joshua will drop him. But, you can’t underestimate anyone,” Lewis added.
“Ruiz is an experienced professional, he competes in America and is a good fighter; he has a lot of experience.”
“It was not an easy fight and I just hope Joshua beats him. He should be right when he gets back with him because I think Joshua underestimated Ruiz at the last meeting.”
“(Fighting in Saudi Arabia is) a big challenge with a different time schedule. You should be able to go here, there and everywhere that messes up your training. But that is a region that has different battles.”
