Barcelona’s 21-year-old Carles Perez is one of Ernesto Valverde’s regular players this season. Thanks to consistent performance, he was rewarded with a new contract by management.
Barcelona announced the contract extension of the La Masia graduate player recently. Carles Perez was bound by an agreement that would make him a Blaugrana player until 2022.
Perez himself has penetrated Barcelona’s core squad since last season. He made his debut in the final match of La Liga against Eibar which ended with a 2-2 draw. He entered in the 73rd minute to replace the other attacker, Malcom.
This season, Carles Perez has recorded five appearances in La Liga. He has also bagged a goal against Real Betis in the second week of the Spanish supreme competition.
The History of Carles Perez
Before breaking into the core squad at the end of last season, Perez was one of the Barcelona B. regular players. He appeared 54 times and won a total of 12 goals.
Perez became part of La Masia when he was very young, 14 years old. Before that, he was an academy club member from another La Liga participant, Espanyol.
He is also a regular member of the Spanish national team since the U-16 and U-17 levels. Finally, Perez had a chance to contribute to the under-21 national team when they met Montenegro in the U21 2121 European Cup qualifying match.
Chance to appear again
Carles Perez was sent down by Valverde since the early minutes in the match against Granada at the weekend. Most likely, he will be seen again when Barcelona visit Getafe on Saturday.
That possibility could occur because the Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, was certainly absent in the match. The striker from Argentina had to pull back from the field because of an injury against Villarreal.
Barcelona’s burden is quite large at this time. They need an additional three points to improve their position in the La Liga standings. Currently, the Blaugrana are still stuck in sixth place with a collection of 10 points.
