Joshua said he will knock out Deontay Wilder within six rounds. He boasted of winning the KO after seeing Wilder’s fight with Luis Ortiz at the end of 2019. According to Joshua, Wilder’s victory over Ortiz was nothing special.
‘I will do my best not to give him any chance in the ring. I will take him down within six rounds. This is Heavyweight against Heavyweight, champion against the champion,’ Joshua told Sky Sports.
‘It will be an important fight for me so I will defeat him for 12 rounds, because of the power of his punches too. I have to fight and take him out. Don’t let him feel too comfortable in the ring with me,’ he promised.
Before fighting Joshua, Wilder planned to take the ring against Tyson Fury in a February 22 duel. The results of the Wilder vs Fury 2 duel will determine the status of the unification with Joshua.
Joshua again won the world championship after winning an absolute number over Andy Ruiz Jr in a duel in Saudi Arabia on December 7. While Wilder retained the title after hitting KO Ortiz. Wilder also eliminated Dominic Breazeale in the first round in early 2019.
Joshua considers Wilder like other boxers. “No, it’s not scary,” Joshua said when asked about Wilder’s threat.
Joshua is waiting for news of the next fight after being ordered to mandatory fight against Kubrat Pulev and Oleksandr Usyk, IBF and WBO’s mandatory challengers.
Wilder repeatedly called for “one champion, one face, one name,” and Joshua remained willing to accept this challenge if his rival from Alabama defeated Fury.
‘If he looks for it, we have to do it, and we don’t find it difficult. We have a great team behind us,’ he said.
‘I always say, we are in the same division, the same era, the battle must take place.’
