Anthony Davis “very likely” to miss game against Oklahoma City Thunder

Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis, is likely to miss the next game against Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. Subsequently, he has been nursing a bruised right quad and missed three games owing to that. Rumors aired, Davis played the NBA finals last season with a slight ankle niggle. Further, his playing through the pain ultimately resulted in the Lakers winning the championship.

The Lakers listed Davis questionable for their game against Oklahoma, but now it said that that he is “very likely” to sit the game out considering his right Achilles tendinosis. This injury comes straight after the right quad contusion issue he had. With both injuries on the same leg, the Los Angeles Lakers do not want to take any risks in this physical condition.

Anthony Davis and the Lakers

The Lakers are coming off the longest season in NBA history. The season was elongated because of the postponement of many games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 to 2020 season ended in October and the following season commenced on December 22. Further, it considerably shortened the offseason term for the players.

The offseason period is important to players because it prevents them from burning out due to the tremendous physical pressure they put on their bodies regularly. Qualifying for the Finals did not do the Lakers any good as far as physical fatigue is concerned. Further, playing seven more games than other teams leaves an impact on the players. Moreover, if the rumors are to be believed, then Anthony Davis was nursing a secret ankle injury which would have only gone worse with time.

Lakers’ performance this season:

The Los Angeles Lakers currently sit comfortably in 2nd place. Bettered only by Utah Jazz. They look dead set on emulating last season’s feats. And with veteran ballers like LeBron James and Anthony Davis in their ranks, they certainly can qualify for the playoffs, if not for the whole term.

Anthony Davis is a very important cog in the machine that is the Lakers. If he sustains a prolonged injury, then it would disrupt the team’s title charge. Therefore, Frank Vogel does not want to risk playing him through this injury.
