Former Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has injured himself while cycling in Switzerland. The F1 star has fractured his jaw in the process.
Alonso’s Alpine F1 team, formerly known as the Renault F1 team, issued a statement. The team said in the statement on Thursday that Alonso was “conscious and well in himself.” Further, the team announced on Friday that Alonso had suffered a fractured jaw in the incident and was recovering after surgery.

“Following his cycling accident yesterday, Fernando Alonso was kept under observation in hospital in Switzerland,” the statement said. “Medics discovered a fracture in his upper jaw and conducted a successful corrective operation. The attending medical team are satisfied with his progress.”
“After a few days of complete rest, he will be able to progressively resume training,” Alpine F1 said. “We expect him to be fully operational to undertake preparation for the season.” the team concluded.

Italy’s Gazzetta said that X-ray reports showed Alonso suffered a fracture. He suffered it after he was reportedly hit by a car while he was cycling. The team also said that Alonso is expected to be ready before the 2021 season takes off.

Just four days after the accident, Fernando Alonso has been discharged from the hospital. His team has revealed that the Spaniard is discharged from the hospital to continue his recovery at home more conveniently.
The Spaniard spent the past two seasons racing in various series, including the 2020 Indianapolis 500 too. He finished 21st after he failed to qualify in 2019. Fernando also raced at Rolex 24s at Daytona in 2018 and 2019. Further, he was part of the Wayne Taylor Racing team that won the race in 2019.

Fernando Alonso in F1
Alonso at 39 now is returning to Formula 1 in 2021 for the first time since 2018. His last race for McLaren was in 2018. The 2005 and 2006 Formula 1 champion, Alonso, has won 32 races and scored 97 podiums in 312 career starts. Although it has been a while since his last F1 podium, the last one being in 2013.
Fernando raced for Renault when he won his two F1 titles with the team. Further, in this season, he will race behind the wheels of his former team, replacing Daniel Ricciardo. While Ricciardo is moving to McLaren. Alonso will race along with Esteban Ocon as teammates. The 2021 Formula 1 season starts on March 28, 2021, in Bahrain.
