Harry Maguire and Scott Mctominay should make a great defensive pair says Gary Neville

His presence in the heart of defense creates a path for midfielders and Forwards of the Red Devils to attack. Subsequently, he has been in dominant form for United defensively after his departure from Leicester City on August 5th, 2019.

Manchester United icon and English football legend Gary Neville feels he has the right player in mind to partner with Maguire. In an interview with the Express, Gary Neville said, “I feel Scott Mctominay should partner Harry Maguire in central defense.” He mentions that there are similarities between Mctominay and players like John Stones (Man City) and Declan Rice (West Ham).

Manchester United has been keeping an eye out for a new center back. The list has names like Rice, Jules Kounde (Sevilla) and Ibrahim Konate (RB Leipzig) at the top.

Maguire partnering with either of these two men over Mctominay would require Manchester United to pay a ridiculous amount. Harry Maguire has given his approval to Mctominay after the youngster produced a noteworthy performance against Leeds United on December 20th, 2020.

In an interview with Eurosport, Maguire said, “Mctominay’s performance was the best ever to be witnessed on a pitch.”

The idea of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay teaming up would delight Man United fans.

But consequently, they would prefer to see Maguire and Bailly resume their partnership. According to a report published by the Manchester Evening News, “Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly have a formidable defensive partnership.” He has a good understanding of Bailly, defensively, but the Ivorian has been injured for some time now. This has left Harry Maguire quite vulnerable to the opposition attacks since the Ivorians’ departure on January 21st 2021.

Seventy-six percentage of Manchester United fans would prefer to see Eric Bailly as Harry Maguire’s partner over any other player.
